What to know about 2026 tax changes

The IRS kicks off income tax season today with major new provisions taking effect.

Why it matters: It's the first filing season reflecting changes from last year's "big, beautiful bill," which could affect your refund amounts, credits and deductions.

• First-half payments are due Feb. 28 now, not Jan. 31 — a change to better align with other counties, per the Franklin County Treasurer's Office.
• Since Feb. 28 is a Saturday this year, payment is due March 2, the following Monday.
