Central Ohio gas prices kicked off 2026 at their lowest point in at least three years, per GasBuddy data.

By the numbers: Local prices have been hovered around $2.60 per gallon over the past week — around 60 cents cheaper than this time last year.

The continued drop is largely driven by lower oil prices, increased production and softened demand.

Between the lines: Despite speculation, it's unlikely President Trump's operation in Venezuela will immediately impact fuel prices, said Patrick De Haan, GasBuddy's head of petroleum analysis, in a statement.

What's next: De Haan expects prices to "bottom out in the weeks ahead" before beginning a seasonal climb toward March.
