I'm starting to wonder if Buddy the Elf was onto something when he dug into that sugar-coated spaghetti breakfast.
Dining the news: Rose Dough Donuts in Clintonville brought back its elaborate Christmas movie-inspired treats for another season, and I finally taste-tested several.
- To my surprise, the one inspired by "Elf" was most memorable and delicious — a mishmash of flavors including coffee, peppermint, sprinkles and maple syrup ($6.50).
Yes, but: I have to give an honorable mention to the unusual "Home Alone" pizza doughnut ($8.50).
- Though Kevin prefers just cheese, I added pepperoni.
Other creations include:
- A gourmet Little Debbie-style tree ($7).
- Two doughnuts inspired by "A Christmas Story" — "Ralphie's Pink Bunny" peppermint and "Oh Fudge" ($6.50 each).
- "It's Lime," for "Christmas Vacation" fans ($6).
The bottom line: While the price is a bit steep, these doughnuts are dense, with a pastry-like texture, and undoubtedly unlike any you've had before.
