Add Ye Olde Trail Tavern in Yellow Springs to your next Southwest Ohio road trip. Photos: Alissa Widman Neese/Axios
👋 Alissa here, with a tip if you're ever near Yellow Springs: it's also home to Ohio's oldest tavern.
Dining the news: I stopped by Ye Olde Trail Tavern, established in 1827, during my time off last week, before a trip to nearby Clifton Mill's Legendary Lights.
The vibe: The space is decked out for the holidays and lives up to its moniker.
Entering the dimly lit dining room behind the bar felt like climbing into a cave, but cozy.
The fireplace, antique decor and exposed ceiling beams add rustic charm.
What I ate: The German-inspired food is pretty good — I got a turkey Reuben — though with Schmidt's essentially in my backyard, it's hard to compare.
Yes, but: The real draw is the atmosphere, and it's worked for nearly 200 years.
