Columbus Metropolitan Library is halting plans for a new branch on the city's northwest side.
State of play: The West Case Branch would have been the system's 24th, placed in an area not closely served by other existing locations.
- It was expected to open in 2028 within the site of a new city park across from the OSU airport.
In a news release, CML blamed "future uncertainty" regarding state funding of libraries and an ongoing grassroots movement in Ohio to eliminate property taxes.
- The system's board of trustees "will assess when or whether to move forward with the project as the long-term landscape for state funding and property taxes becomes clearer."
The big picture: The library system is still planning to open a renovated Barnett Branch later this year.
- The new Canal Winchester Branch building and renovated Linden Branch are expected to open in 2026.
