DeWine sends Ohio National Guard personnel to D.C.

• In a statement, DeWine said the Ohio members, who will "carry out presence patrols and serve as added security," were requested by Secretary of the Army Daniel Driscoll.

Flashback: Ohio previously sent 100 National Guard members to D.C. in 2020 during the George Floyd protests.

• DeWine later sent around 1,000 troops to D.C. in the aftermath of the Jan. 6, 2021, riots to provide security for President Joe Biden's inauguration.

Later that year, DeWine sent troops (and state highway patrol officials) to the southern border in Texas.

• DeWine visited the border himself and said the deployment was in Ohio's interest because it would "prevent drugs from coming to our state."
