Travel writer Brandy Gleason has written four books recommending food and attractions across Ohio and the Midwest, many inspired by her popular "Ohio Road Trips" Facebook group.
- For the latest entry in our Best Day Ever series, we asked her to suggest spots for her own perfect day.
Her choices:
🎵 Music to start your day: If I need to get the mental juices flowing right away, some '80s big hair band does the trick. When it's a slower kind of day, some good jazz can make it go by flawlessly.
🧇 Breakfast: Anne's Kitchen in Powell for a waffle with fantastic sugar crystals in the batter. Every bite is an explosion of flavor.
☕ Morning activity: Mornings are my favorite! I love to make a cup of coffee in one of the many travel mugs I've collected.
- In the spring and summer, I sit on my big front porch and watch the birds before I get the day going. In late fall and winter, when the fire is crackling in the fireplace, I sit in the reclining chair as I motivate myself since winter is such a gray sky kind of time.
🥪 Lunch: When this time rolls around, I need to remember to eat! I usually get so sucked into writing and creating content that I forget.
- The Red Hen in Plain City is a cute brunch-ish place to grab a chicken salad sandwich on a croissant.
🐟 Afternoon activity: A trip to the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium, where feeling the stingrays and watching the sea lions top the list.
🍽️ Dinner: Bridge Park in Dublin. Things book fast there, so I would make reservations in advance to Cap City Fine Diner and order the daily Blue Plate Special.
🍷 Evening activity: When the weather is right, I'd listen to live music with drinks at VASO's rooftop in Dublin or a local winery like the Taphouse at Retreat 21 in Marysville.
- During the cooler months, I would take in a show at the Ohio Theatre.
