If elected, J.D. Vance would be Ohio's first VP

Technically, three vice presidents were born in Ohio: Thomas A. Hendricks (Fultonham), Charles W. Fairbanks (Unionville Center) and Charles G. Dawes (Marietta).

• They served with presidents Grover Cleveland, Theodore Roosevelt and Calvin Coolidge, respectively.
• But none were living here when they took office, and they're attributed to other states.

Flashback: Gen. Curtis E. LeMay, a Columbus native, ran with segregationist presidential candidate George Wallace in 1968. They finished a distant third.

• Gov. John Bricker was the most recent Ohioan named to a major party ticket.
• In 1944, he ran with New York Gov. Thomas Dewey, but they lost to President Franklin D. Roosevelt, who earned a fourth term.

Before that, Allen G. Thurman was the unsuccessful running mate of President Cleveland in 1888 and George H. Pendleton was on the ticket that lost to President Abraham Lincoln in 1864.
