Ohio officials from both political parties were quick to condemn Saturday's shooting that injured former President Trump at a political rally in Pennsylvania.
Catch up quick: Trump is reportedly "fine" after, he wrote on Truth Social, being "shot with a bullet that pierced the upper part" of his right ear.
One rally attendee and the alleged shooter were killed. Two other spectators were injured.
What they're saying: Gov. Mike DeWine posted to X that he and his wife Fran were "praying for President Trump, his family, and our country."
U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown called political violence "completely unacceptable" and called for a "comprehensive investigation" into the shooting.
In a statement, Bernie Moreno, Brown's Republican opponent for Senate, expressed condolences "to the people who we lost in this act of evil ... We need President Trump — an American legend — now more than ever."
U.S. Sen. J.D. Vance, a finalist to be Trump's vice presidential pick, offered a much more pointed response, blaming President Biden for the shooting.
Vance wrote on X the shooting "is not just some isolated incident."
"The central premise of the Biden campaign is that President Donald Trump is an authoritarian fascist who must be stopped at all costs. That rhetoric led directly to President Trump's attempted assassination."
Between the lines: Vance, who was once a vocal critic of Trump, is now one of the former president's most fervent defenders in Congress.
Vance and two other VP finalists privately met with Trump shortly before the weekend rally, ABC News reported, though no offer had been formally extended as of Saturday afternoon.
What's next: The VP pick is expected to be announced at the Republican National Convention, which begins today in Milwaukee.
Vance is included on a list of RNC speakers alongside Moreno, East Palestine Mayor Trent Conaway and Upper Arlington entrepreneur and former presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy.
