The next voice of the Blue Jackets is no stranger to Nationwide Arena.
Announcing the news: Steve Mears will take over TV play-by-play duties this season following longtime broadcaster Jeff Rimer's retirement.
- Mears, 44, has called many games for the Pittsburgh Penguins, New York Islanders, and NHL Network during his 18-year career.
The intrigue: He's also a Bowling Green State University grad who broadcasted Falcons games and frequently made the trip down to Columbus.
What he's saying: "I've seen first-hand for many years, as far back as when I attended games as a student at Bowling Green, how loyal and passionate Blue Jackets fans are and how special game nights at Nationwide Arena can be," Mears told NHL.com.
