It may have taken the allure of a popup ramen joint to make it happen, but I finally checked out Budd Dairy Food Hall. And wow, I wish I visited sooner.
Flashback: The 105-year-old building that once housed a milk-bottling plant was restored into a modern food hall by Cameron Mitchell Restaurants earlier this year.
- It boasts 10 chef partners and three bars with local brews on tap.
What I ate: Red Rabbit Ramen's tan tan ramen with ground pork was a creamy, comforting take on one of my favorite foods. Just the right amount of noodles and heat.
- Cousins Maine Lobster's food truck is iconic, so of course I had to verify their brick-and-mortar restaurant is still the real deal (it is). The warm Connecticut lobster roll is buttery perfection.
- For dessert: delicious tres leches cake from Tacos Rudos.
My take: It's great to sample so many local offerings under one roof. Second-floor Simon's Bar is a fun spot with board games that retains the building's historic charm.
What's next: The hall will switch its two rotating stalls later this month.
- Fourteen Twenty Nine, a dessert-based social enterprise, replaces Mrs. Turbo's Cookies tomorrow.
- The Cuban cuisine of Pablo's Havana Café replaces Red Rabbit Ramen on Nov. 22.
