The most famous pop star in the world and her husband have a new place to hang their stockings in Northeast Ohio.
- Newlyweds Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce reportedly dropped $5.3 million on a lakefront mansion in Bratenahl.
Why it matters: Even if it's only an offseason getaway, the home has a rich Cleveland history. And as Bratenahl is located within the Cleveland Metropolitan School District, the gaudy annual property tax bill will help support Cleveland schools.
What they're saying: "This remarkable Bratenahl estate pairs Gilded Age grandeur with modern luxury," agents David Ayers and Nick Zawitz of The Agency said in a statement provided to Axios.
- "Meticulously restored original details paired with its exceptional modern amenities has created a truly rare Great Lakes estate. We're thrilled for the new owners and so excited for Cleveland."
Catch up quick: Dubbed "Moyenage," ("Middle Ages"), the property was constructed for Cleveland industrialist Jay Morse, co-founder of iron, coal, and shipping firm Pickands Mather & Co, per FreshWater Cleveland.
- But its most famous resident was George Martin, the president and chairman of Sherwin-WIlliams, who lived there from 1928 until his death in 1944.
The latest: A local renovation firm purchased the property for $1.95 million in 2023 and restored it to Gatsby-esque elegance, per News5.
Zoom in: The 21,000 square-foot property sits on 3.5 lakefront acres in the village of Bratenahl, the ritzy enclave bordered by Glenville to the south and Collinwood to the east.
- The Haslams own two multimillion-dollar properties nearby.
- Among the recent conversions, per the WSJ: The home's original ballroom is now a game room and theater, and the gatehouse is now a two-bedroom guest cottage.
By the numbers: At a reported $5.3 million sale price, it's a major outlier in Northeast Ohio's luxury real estate market.
- In 2025, there were only 16 multi-million home sales in Cuyahoga County, per Crain's, and the most expensive was a lakefront Rocky River mansion that sold for just under $4 million.
Between the lines: Though Bratenahl is an independent village, it falls within the Cleveland Metropolitan School District.
- Of the roughly $120,000 in annual taxes the property will generate — per the County's property tax estimator — 60% (~$72,000) will be earmarked for Cleveland schools.
The intrigue: The Agency was unable to provide photos, but a video and photos of the property before its 2023 sale can be viewed at Chestnut Hill Realty.
