It's been a long time coming, but — Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce are engaged, Swift announced on her Instagram.
Why it matters: Swift and Kelce have been a celebrity power couple since they started dating in 2023 amid Swift's billion-dollar Eras Tour.
- Swift is arguably the biggest pop star in the world, and Kelce is one of the NFL's most recognizable faces. The two have appeared at NFL games and, more recently, in a podcast together.
Driving the news: Swift announced their engagement in an Instagram post on Tuesday afternoon.
- "Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married," Swift wrote on Instagram.
- The post featured five photos of Swift and Kelce together amid bouquets of flowers.
Her Instagram Story pointed to the post, with the song "So High School" playing in the background.
- The song — from Swift's 2024 "Tortured Poets Department: The Anthology" album — was deemed by many to be about Kelce.
Fun fact: The engagement was shared just hours after it was announced that the couple had set a Guinness World Record with her appearance on the "New Heights" podcast earlier this month, which drew 1.3 million people tuning in simultaneously when it was released.
What they're saying: "It's a love story, baby, she SAID YES," wrote Taylor Nation, the social media team for Swift on X.
- "I wish them a lot of luck," President Trump said about the engagement in Tuesday's cabinet meeting. "I think he's a great player. I think he's a great guy. And I think that she's a terrific person. So I wish them a lot of luck."
- "I AM SO HAPPY FOR MY CLOSE AND PERSONAL FRIEND TAYLOR SWIFT," wrote one fan.
- "Taylor Swift is getting married. It's someday. She found someone who actually treats her well," said another.
- Kelce's "New Heights" podcast account tweeted a 2023 comment from Kelce calling on Swifties to "dream big."
The big picture: Fans of Swift have followed the pop star's dating life since she was an up-and-coming country artist. Reported relationships with John Mayer, Jake Gyllenhaal and Connor Kennedy have become tales of Swiftie lore.
- After she ended her six-year relationship with Joe Alwyn in 2023, Swift soon found herself with Kelce (albeit after the rumored Matty Healy thing).
- The Kelce-Swift tandem took off after the NFL star suggested on his podcast the desire to give Swift a friendship bracelet, which had been immortalized on her Eras Tour by dedicated fans as a callback to her song "You're On Your Own, Kid."
- Kelce invited Swift to his Chiefs games (she attended her first in September 2023), Kelce attended her concerts and, well, "Traylor" became a thing.
- Since then, the couple has been snapped and photographed throughout the world amid their relationship by tabloid photogs aplenty. (The two went Instagram official with a series of photos over the summer during Kelce's offseason.)
They even have a storybook moment fit for one of Swift's songs. After the Kansas City Chiefs won Super Bowl LVIII over the San Francisco 49ers, Kelce and Swift shared a sparkly smooch before the world.
The bottom line: It's unclear when the wedding will be, but there's no doubt fans will be …ready for it.
