As if the Browns building a new stadium in Brook Park isn't controversial enough, the team has now entered into the NFL's turf war.

Driving the news: The Browns' $2.6 billion stadium, set to open in 2029, will feature artificial turf, according to Pro Football Talk.

The big picture: The news comes as the NFL Players Association advocates for more grass at stadiums, citing studies that suggest artificial turf causes more injuries.

Still, some teams prefer turf because it requires less maintenance.

By the numbers: Currently, 16 NFL teams play their home games on turf, while 16 play on grass.

That includes the Buffalo Bills, who switched from turf to grass at their new stadium this season.

Reality check: The Browns' new stadium will have the "ability to accommodate grass," per Pro Football Talk.

So, the team has three years to change its mind.
