Cleveland is an Ohio Catholic stronghold

In Northeast Ohio, 21% of adults identify as Catholic, according to Pew Research Center data.
- More than half of local adults (60%) identify as Christians, with Catholics outnumbering Evangelical protestants (15%), mainline protestants (12%) and historically Black protestants (8%).
Between the lines: Cleveland is a Catholic stronghold relative to the rest of the state. In the Columbus metro area, only 10% identify as Catholic.
What's next: The 600,000 members of the Cleveland Catholic Diocese are mourning the recent death of Pope Francis and eagerly awaiting the papal conclave, which is set to begin this week.
