Two of the biggest names in this month's NFL Draft will take the field for workouts at the University of Colorado Friday.
Why it matters: The Browns have the No. 2 pick in the draft, which starts April 24.
- The workouts of Colorado wideout/cornerback Travis Hunter and quarterback Shedeur Sanders could go a long way in determining who Cleveland selects and possibly solving the team's quarterback dilemma.
How it works: The day will feature on-field drills in front of representatives from all 32 NFL teams.
- Neither Sanders nor Hunter took part in on-field workouts during February's NFL Scouting Combine.
Browns coach Kevin Stefanski revealed earlier this week that he, general manager Andrew Berry, owner Jimmy Haslam and other team personnel planned to take Sanders out to dinner during their trip to Colorado.
What they're saying: "He's an extremely talented football player," Stefanski said of Sanders during the NFL's annual league meeting in Palm Beach on Monday, per Cleveland.com.
- "Again, getting to know the kid, you watch the tape and I think the important part as an evaluator is you want to talk to the player about plays, how he plays, and I think he sees the game really, really well, has been raised the right way."
Zoom in: Cleveland currently has just two quarterbacks on the roster, while starter Deshaun Watson's future with the team remains uncertain.
- Sanders, the son of football legend and Colorado head coach Deion Sanders, is the second-highest-rated QB in the draft behind Miami's Cam Ward, who is expected to go No. 1 overall to the Tennessee Titans.
The other side: If the Browns aren't impressed with Sanders, they would opt for the highest-rated player at any position.
- Depending who you ask, that's either Penn State pass rusher Abdul Carter or Hunter, whose dominance on offense and defense earned him the 2025 Heisman Trophy.
State of play: Last month, the Browns traded for quarterback Kenny Pickett, who warmed the bench for the Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles last season.
- The team missed out on free agent Russell Wilson, who visited Cleveland but chose to sign with the New York Giants.
- There are also rumors the Browns could trade for Atlanta Falcons quarterback Kirk Cousins, who played for Stefanski when both were with the Minnesota Vikings.
How to watch: The NFL Network will broadcast Friday's workouts starting at 2:30pm EST.
The bottom line: Hunter and Carter appear to be great prospects, but a bad history of quarterbacks suggests the Browns should take Sanders if things go well Friday.
