With the 2024 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductions behind us, it's never too soon to look ahead to next year.
State of play: The museum announced the nominees for the class of 2024 this past February and will likely do the same in a few months for the class of 2025.
How it works: To be eligible, an artist had to release their first official recording at least 25 years prior to induction.
Yes, but: There are no sure-fire Hall of Famers from the list of newly eligible acts, which includes artists like P!nk, Linkin Park, Sufjan Stevens and Gorillaz.
The intrigue: The Rock Hall nominated 15 acts for the class of 2024.
- So, here are 15 artists we think will make up the 2025 ballot:
Holdovers
Of the artists who failed to earn induction from this year's ballot, Mariah Carey and Oasis will appear again.
- Carey is a huge enough star to remain on the ballot until she's voted in, while the Oasis reunion makes them a relevant choice for next year.
Familiar faces
The annual metal spot is open again with Ozzy Osbourne being inducted, which is good news for two-time nominee Iron Maiden.
- The White Stripes, Cyndi Lauper and Warren Zevon should all get their second shot, while Soundgarden's third nomination could be the charm.
Participation trophies
The Rock Hall likes nominating artists who participate in ceremonies. That bodes well for hip-hop acts Queen Latifah and De La Soul, which both honored A Tribe Called Quest this year.
- Billy Idol's contribution to Osbourne's tribute could open the door for the 1980s rocker.
Other genres
The inductions have been big on country music in recent years and the next artist could be Garth Brooks, who pushed the genre into the mainstream in the 1990s.
- The inductions of Kool & the Gang and Mary J. Blige open the door for other overdue R&B artists like Luther Vandross and War.
Rock on
Classic rock fans may scoff at this list so far, but the nominating committee will throw them a few bones.
- Two acts that fit the bill are Thin Lizzy and Led Zeppelin's Robert Plant as a solo artist.
For those keeping score, here's our predicted ballot:
- Garth Brooks
- Mariah Carey
- De La Soul
- Billy Idol
- Iron Maiden
- Queen Latifah
- Cyndi Lauper
- Robert Plant
- Oasis
- Soundgarden
- Thin Lizzy
- Luther Vandross
- War
- The White Stripes
- Warren Zevon
