"Illuminate CLE" light installation on Public Square to debut in August

State of play: The $7 million "Illuminate CLE" installation won't be fully unveiled until next spring.

• But previews are on tap for some of 2024's biggest events — the ASAE conference, the Rock Hall induction weekend, and the downtown WinterLand celebration in December.

What they're saying: David Gilbert, Destination Cleveland's president and CEO, said that Illuminate CLE was an example of how downtown can be enhanced to benefit visitors and residents.

Catch up quick: The project would include high-powered spotlights and "supercharged projectors" on poles and rooftop fixtures to create color washes and aerial effects downtown.

• Projected slides could be scaled and customized with patterns and text.

Follow the money: Destination Cleveland funded half of the project independently but received financial support from the city and county, the Cleveland Foundation, KeyBank, Sherwin-Williams, and other corporate donors.
