Happy Passover to Cleveland's Jewish population of roughly 80,000 people.

Driving the news: The holiday began Monday and runs through April 30 this year, which means traditional foods such as matzo and gefilte fish are in high demand.

Zoom in: In Cleveland, matzo and gefilte fish averaged $4.68 and $8.94 per pound, respectively, in the two weeks leading up to Passover, according to NIQ, which tracks buying behavior.

  • Nationally, matzo is $5.07 and gefilte fish is $7.07, on average.

Between the lines: Annual matzo sales peak over Passover.

  • The most-popular time to buy is during the first six nights of the holiday — particularly the third night, according to 2023 Instacart data shared with Axios.
