The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame revealed its class of 2024 during an episode of "American Idol" Sunday night.
Why it matters: The class, which includes A Tribe Called Quest, Cher, Dave Matthews Band, Foreigner, Mary J. Blige, Peter Frampton, Kool & The Gang and Ozzy Osbourne, will be inducted during a ceremony on Oct. 19 at Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse.
- The show will stream live on Disney+ with a highlight special to air on ABC weeks later.
Driving the news: The "American Idol" announcement was unique for the Rock Hall, which in prior years revealed the inductees live on SiriusXM.
The intrigue: This is the first ceremony to take place in Cleveland since 2021. It will return here every even year, while odd years rotate between New York and Los Angeles.
- The museum has touted a local economic impact of $35-$50 million when the inductions take place in Cleveland.
Between the lines: In addition to the main inductees, Jimmy Buffet, MC5, Dionne Warwick and Norman Whitfield will each receive the Musical Excellence Award.
- Blues legends Big Mama Thornton, Alexis Korner and John Mayall are this year's Musical Influence Award recipients.
- The Ahmet Ertegun Award for lifetime achievement will go to music and film producer Suzanne de Passe.
The other side: Nominees who missed out include Mariah Carey, Lenny Kravitz, Sinéad O'Connor, Oasis, Sade, Eric B. & Rakim and Jane's Addiction.
What's next: The Rock Hall will announce special guests, presenters and ticket information in the coming months.
💭 My thought bubble: This is a loaded class. It'll be interesting to see how they keep the ceremony under five hours.
The bottom line: The class of 2024 features something for everyone, which should make the show in Cleveland a hot ticket.
