A national meetup created for tall people is making a stop in Charlotte this weekend — and it's attracting crowds just as impressive as their height.
Why it matters: People in Charlotte are constantly searching for ways to make friends, and this viral tour offers individuals a place to share experiences and build community.
Context: The Tall Tour was founded by 6-foot-9-inch content creator Tyler Bergantino, who originally started it for casual hangouts just to meet other tall people who are used to standing out. As the crowds grew, he realized how meaningful the connections were.
- What began as a small meetup has evolved into a national series that has been anything but small, with some events — like one in New York — drawing nearly 2,000 people.
Driving the news: The next meet-up is this Saturday, Dec. 6, at Brewers at 4001 Yancey in Lower South End from 4-7pm.
- Upcoming stops on the tour include Greenville, South Carolina; Miami, Orlando and San Francisco.
What they're saying: "People are so deprived of connection that all they need is one thing in common with others in a group," Bergantino said.
- "These meetups aren't really events — they're an experience," he adds. "You're never going to feel shorter. Everybody is tall. I don't feel super tall anymore; I actually feel more normal."

What to expect: A relaxed space where tall people might feel like the shortest in the room. Events typically include a meet-and-greet, a fun height lineup, and the crowning of a Tall King and Queen.
- Bergantino says the moment that often resonates most is the height competition. "You watch these 6'6" women come in, a little shy, and then they get crowned. They get to celebrate their height — something they've probably wrestled with for a while."
Zoom in: The event is free and open to everyone, though it's geared toward tall attendees.
- A Facebook group for the growing community since making his seven other stops in cities across the country has gained more than 44,000 members.
Zoom out: Bergantino also runs a VIP network for individuals 6'8" and taller.
- Membership is $2/month and includes discounts with tall-friendly brands, casting calls, a singles section and life hacks. Members also help choose future Tall Tour stops.
- There is a minimum height of five feet, eight inches for women and six feet, one inch for men, with verification required (often a photo next to a door frame) in order to join.
What's next: Bergantino hopes the momentum pushes into industries — from fashion to airlines — to design more thoughtfully for tall people. Until then, he's planning to expand his reach by hosting singles events, fashion pop-ups, meetups for teens and college students and even international stops beginning in 2026.
