Local açaí bowl chain Spoons is launching a sister business called Eden, an all-day health cafe focused on minimally processed ingredients, its owners say.
Why it matters: Eden aims to meet Charlotte's growing demand for healthier options, they say. The launch comes amid a national push for nutritious eating and ingredient transparency, driven by wellness influencers and the MAHA movement.
Catch up quick: The hope is to eventually transform all Spoons locations into Eden. A flagship cafe at Carmel Commons that's expected to open Nov. 19. It's in the final stages of construction.
- Eden is led by Spoons owner Laura Hargreaves alongside Jonathan Crumpler and Rob Bryan of Break Bread Ventures.

The intrigue: The team describes Eden as a "clean" cafe, which they say uses organic and minimal ingredients whenever possible, avoids additives and keeps dishes palm-oil free.
What to expect: It'll still serve Spoons' signature açaí bowls and protein shakes, but with new local partnerships and an expanded menu, including:
- Crepes, egg soufflés and avocado toast.
- Organic coffee and matcha from Indian Trail coffee shop Raw Crunch and Coffee.
- Bakery items and breads from Copain and protein bites from Raw Bites by Risa.
- Shakes will use Truvani protein powder, whose founder, Vani Hari (AKA The Food Babe), is a Charlotte native and well-known food industry critic.
Zoom in: A few menu items include "The Eden," the signature bowl with pitaya and housemade chia seed pudding.
- A "Real Caramel Latte" with organic espresso, house-made vanilla bean syrup and real caramel.
- The "Better Nutella French Crêpe," made with organic strawberries, hazelnut cocoa spread on an organic and gluten-free crêpe.

What they're saying: The launch of a sister restaurant was mostly customer-led, says owner Hargreaves, and "fills a void in the market."
- "I can't tell you over the course of the last six years, how many people would come in and ask for protein shakes," she says.
- Eventually, Spoons added shakes to its menu, but Hargreaves says there were still gaps. Kids would come in for bowls; parents would just want a coffee.
- That feedback inspired the evolution into Eden.

Stop by: The Carmel Commons location is at 6640 Carmel Road.
- Along with grab-and-go, it'll offer dine-in.
- Hours will be 6am-8pm Monday through Sunday.
