If you've watched the trailer for "Christy," a new boxer biopic starring Sydney Sweeney, you probably recognized a few locations, including Bojangles Coliseum.
Why it matters: The film, which made its world premiere at the Toronto Film Festival this month, was the latest of several recent projects to shoot in the Charlotte area. These productions help fuel North Carolina's economy.
By the numbers: The film was approved for an up to $4.6 million rebate from the N.C. Film & Entertainment Grant fund. How much the project receives will be determined after in-state spending has been verified, North Carolina Film Office director Guy Gaster tells Axios.
Context: The film was inspired by the story of champion boxer Christy Martin, who is played by Sweeney.
The bottom line: Charlotte continues to attract productions from reality shows, including "Love is Blind," "The Ultimatum," the upcoming season of "Top Chef," scripted series like "The Hunting Wives" (recently renewed for a second season) and films such as Channing Tatum's "Roofman."
