Channing Tatum spotted filming new movie "Roofman" in South End

• That's a change from a few years ago, when production companies boycotted North Carolina because of House Bill 2, AKA the "bathroom bill," which banned transgender people from using bathrooms that align with their gender identity.
• That, combined with a changed tax incentive program, had sent the film and television industry packing.

Driving the news: Earlier this month, residents and employees near South Clarkson Street and West Summit Avenue in South End received letters notifying them of street closures for film crews.

• "The Cast and Crew of Brown Creek Media LLC are planning to utilize Charlotte as the backdrop for some of (the) driving-related scenes on (the) upcoming film entitled Roofman," the letter reads.

Context: "Roofman" is a true crime feature based on the real story of serial robber Jeffrey Manchester, according to IMDB.

• Manchester was convicted in 2000 after breaking into more than 60 McDonald's restaurants via their roofs. Before getting arrested, he hid in an abandoned Circuit City on Independence, The Charlotte Ledger reports.
• Crews are set to film "Roofman" in Charlotte through December, according to WSOC.

Between the lines: "Roofman" isn't the only flick filming in Charlotte. Earlier this year, casting agents called for extras for Sydney Sweeney's new movie "Apopka," which follows Sweeney's portrayal of iconic female boxer, Christy Martin.
