Charlotte's infatuation with Mahjong continues to grow.
Why it matters: Across Charlotte, you'll find people of all ages and backgrounds gathering around tables learning how to play the centuries-old Chinese strategy game that's often been linked to older generations.
State of play: A friend recently invited Laura and me to attend Mrs. Merriman's Mahjong event at Vaulted Oak Brewing. Allison Merriman, a former elementary school teacher turned American Mahjong instructor, taught us the rules and helped us work our way through a game.
The room was packed with women in cute summer dresses, sipping drinks and bonding over learning something new together.
What's next: Merriman's next event at Vaulted Oak is Aug. 18 from 7-9:30pm. It's $35 per person. She also has pop-ups at Wiloe in Plaza Midwood and offers private lessons. This fall, she'll have events at Summit Coffee in Eastover.
The big picture: Mahjong is a great way to make friends and check out different businesses around the city.
