New billiards bar with free pool tables and cheap drinks opens near NoDa

Borderline Bar & Billiards quietly has opened at The Pass, a mixed-use development near NoDa.
Why it matters: It's one of many local businesses coming to the area located off the Sugar Creek Light Rail Station, including the highly anticipated return of Soul Gastrolounge, which is set to happen by the end of the year.
Context: Borderline Bar & Billiards is owned by Greg Guillorn, one of the owners of Villa Heights gastropub The Degenerate.
- "We're not trying to get too fancy ... it's more of a laid-back neighborhood bar vibe," Guillorn tells Axios.
The vibe: The 4,000-square-foot space has a bar, five 9-foot-pool tables and darts.
- The pool tables are free to use — "I'm trying to keep it affordable," Guillorn said.
- Its drink menu features original and classic cocktails, wine and beer — nothing over $13.
- There's no food menu but people are welcome to bring food in.

- It's open 5pm-midnight Sunday-Thursday and 5pm-2am Friday and Saturday. Eventually, they hope to open until 2am daily.
What's next: Borderline Bar & Billiards will have an 1,800-square-foot patio with cornhole, a fire pit and picnic tables. Guillorn says he hopes to open it by next month.
Zoom out: Borderline Bar & Billiards is one of a handful of businesses already open at The Pass, including vintage sportswear shop Locker Room and PINE, an event venue from 828 Venue Management Company.
- Next summer, the Pass's multifamily section will open. Called Pass43, it'll have 335 apartments — a mix of studios, one- and two-bedroom units — with amenities like a rooftop terrace, pool deck, cafe and club room.
