Fly Kid Fly is a new coffee shop opening at The Bowl at Ballantyne in early October.
Why it matters: The new business is a combined effort by the owners of popular Charlotte coffee brand HEX and the owners of Suffolk Punch.
What to expect: The 700-square-foot shop will mostly serve to-go orders.
- It'll serve some pastries but, "it'll be more of an espresso bar," co-owner Chandler Wrenn tells Axios.
- The shop's menu will offer flavors like draft vanilla lattes, cappuccinos, filter coffee as well as kid-friendly options.

Zoom out: Fly Kid Fly is at 15119 Bowl St., adjacent to Honeysuckle Gelato and near other newly opened businesses at The Bowl, like OMB, Postino WineCafe, Bossy Beaulah's, North Italia and Flower Child.
- Other businesses coming soon to The Bowl include barber shop Arrow, Drybar, Hawkers, Rooster's, SolidCore and The Salty Donut.
Zoom in: HEX Coffee, Kitchen and Natural Wines, located in Camp North End, is one of Charlotte's most popular coffee shops, even garnering a visit from NBA star Jimmy Butler during a recent trip to Charlotte.
- The Durban Group is a Charlotte-based group of investors and entrepreneurs that owns Suffolk Punch and Harriet's Hamburgers, which recently opened across the street in Ballantyne, among other businesses.
What's next: Fly Kid Fly already has a second location in the works in Matthews at the corner of East John and Trade Streets, WCCB reported.
- It's set to open summer 2025.
