A local trivia host will participate in a new gameshow on FOX called "The Quiz with Balls."
Why it matters: Jacob Gresham, the founder of Mindless Minutia Trivia, is the man behind Charlotte's most popular trivia series. Now, he and his family will test their skills and random knowledge on national television.
How it works: The show, hosted by SNL's Jay Pharoah, pits two families against each other.
- Both families, made up of five players each, compete for a grand prize of $100,000.
- Each contestant must take a quiz. If they get the answer wrong, a massive ball descends upon them and knocks them into a pool.
- The last remaining (dry) family member plays the final round for the grand prize.
The big picture: Charlotte has been getting a ton of national television attention lately — whether it's from crews filming on location for reality series like "The Ultimatum" and "Love is Blind," local chefs on cooking shows like "Chopped" and "Guy's Grocery Games," or for being the hometown of the latest winner of "Survivor."
Context: A casting representative for the show reached out to Gresham on Instagram in December 2023. Two months later he was in Melbourne, Australia with his mom, brother, aunt and uncle, competing against another family for the grand prize.
- "It was a once-in-a-lifetime experience," he tells Axios.

Where to watch: "The Quiz with Balls" airs on FOX every Tuesday at 9pm.
- Gresham's episode will air on July 9. To celebrate, he's hosting a watch party at HopFly with specialty cocktails, the Mindless Minutia Highnstein hazy IPA on tap and an MMT dog toy for every pup that comes in.
- The event starts at 7pm and at 9pm, lights will dim and the TV volume will be turned up for the show.

What's next: Gresham is expanding Mindless Minutia to be more of an event company. In addition to weekly trivia events at local breweries and bars, the company also organizes city-wide and corporate events.
- Mindless Minutia organizes team building and DEI events for companies, like Bank of America and Honeywell. "We want to make it fun. We want the education to be fun," he says.
- "The first [city-wide event] that we're doing is a Harry Potter competition," he said, explaining that the "Harry Potter Wizardry tournament and a Scavenger Hunt Bar Crawl" will have elements of trivia and physical challenges.
- They're also working on a dating game for local singles and possibly a game show of their own.
- Follow Mindless Minutia on Instagram to keep up with their latest events.
