Some American Airlines ticket counters at Charlotte Douglas International Airport will temporarily close July 9-21 and some will be relocated outside of departures.
Why it matters: American Airlines accounts for 90% of all daily flights at CLT. Plus this is the airport's busiest summer ever, officials say, and it's happening amid major construction on the terminal lobby.
What to expect: American Airlines ticket counters between Checkpoints C-E, roughly eight-12 total, will temporarily relocate for construction of the terminal lobby expansion, which includes new ticket counters.
- Four ticket counters and four kiosks will be located outside door two on the departure level. Hours will be the same for both the indoor and the outdoor ticket counters: 4:15am-10:30pm.
- There will be more signs to help direct passengers, plus there will be additional airport and American Airlines staff in the lobby and curbside to assist you.
- Priority check in will be near the Air Canada ticket counter area, an American Airlines spokesperson tells Axios.
- The airport recommends arriving two and half hours before a domestic flight and three and a half hours before an international flight July 9-21 if you're flying American.
The bottom line: If you aren't checking a bag and you can check in online for your flight, it will save you time. You can check in on the American Airlines app or aa.com.
By the numbers: Approximately 925,000 passengers traveled through CLT between July 2-7 for the Fourth of July, which is a 7% increase from 2023, per the airport. More than 153,000 of them were local passengers departing Charlotte (6% more than last year).
What's next: CLT's Terminal Lobby Expansion is expected to be complete in 2025.
