This North Carolina mountaintop mansion with a helipad could be yours for $49,999,999.
Why it matters: The sprawling estate sets the record for being the most expensive listing in our state. The new listing surpasses luxury listing price tags we've previously seen — from a $29.75M mountaintop mansion to a private island estate for $22M.
"Sagee Manor" in Highlands, N.C. belongs to a trust linked to the family of Andrew Johnson, a London-based lighting executive, according to the Wall Street Journal.
Layout: At 12,000 square feet, the estate's main house has four bedrooms and four bathrooms.
- It was designed by Atlanta-based architect Keith Summerour to include white oak moulding, antique stone floors and Gothic arches.
- There are also seven fireplaces, a temperature controlled wine cellar, library, elevator, country-style kitchen, and a garden room under a ceiling mural of native birds.
Guest cottage: As you might expect with nearly a $50M price tag, the property also comes with a 2,500-square-foot guesthouse with three bedrooms and three bathrooms.
- Features include a porch, cinema lounge, pavilion, heated pool and spa.
Outdoor features: The owner spent over $1.5M between new additions on a tiered gala amphitheater and private helipad.
- The estate has a panoramic view of the Nantahala National Forest across 49 acres of land, plus gardens designed by English landscaper Rosemary Verey.
- There's also a croquet court, pond, stone pavilion, terrace waterfall and reception pavilion.
Bonus: For an additional $10M, you can purchase an outparcel of 8.9 acres of land.
