3rd & Fernwood's grand opening at the Metropolitan is Friday, Aug. 30
Why it matters: It's the latest culinary venture for local restaurateurs Subrina Collier and James Beard-nominated chef Greg Collier, who own Leah and Louise and Uptown Yolk.
Catch up quick: 3rd & Fernwood soft opened in June with a limited menu.
- The 5,200-square-foot restaurant has 100 seats, 20 at the bar and 20 outside.

Dig in: The menu features salads, entrees like the oxtail meatloaf ($14) and desserts.
- We tried the shaved greens salad ($12) to start and plantain pudding for dessert ($10).
- They also have sandwiches like a shrimp po boy ($17) and smoked mushroom burger ($15) which come with a side of chips.
- For sides, try the 3 cheese baked mac ($10), hush puppies ($9) or braised greens ($7).

Stop by: 1100 Metropolitan Ave., where Hickory Tavern used to be.
- Open 11am-7pm daily to start.

What's next: Eventually, it'll also have a speakeasy that fits 18 people and will have a separate entrance.
The big picture: The Colliers, who own and operate the Bayhaven Restaurant Group, are some of Charlotte’s most well-known industry experts, not only because of their highly successful restaurants but also because of the work they do in the community.
- “I think the next step of our growth is mentoring and putting people in place to be on their own stage,” Greg told Axios last year, adding that their mission is centered on uplifting, nurturing and promoting Black culinary excellence.

Zoom out: The Metropolitan, which changed ownership in 2020, is in the midst of a refresh that includes the addition of several new tenants.
- Other recent additions include Cornelius-based Lost Worlds Beer and Joan's Bakery and Deli by local restaurateur Jon Dressler.
