Leah & Louise is closing in Camp North End and will reopen in a bigger space in Charlotte's west end, QC Metro first reported.

Why it matters: Owned by local restaurateurs Greg and Subrina Collier, Leah & Louise is one of the city's best restaurants. Since opening in 2020, Camp North End's first restaurant helped elevate Charlotte into the national spotlight with features in the New York Times and Esquire.

Driving the news: The restaurant's final day of operation in Camp North End will be Sunday, April 21, according to a statement.

  • Greg, a James Beard-nominated chef, did not provide further details about the move.
  • He told QC Metro that moving Leah & Louise to the west side has been "in the works for a while," adding that he and Subrina want to support the revitalization of the city's west side, where they live.
"The Historic West End holds a rich legacy and promising future that we are excited to be a part of."

The big picture: It's a complicated time for the Beatties Ford corridor, Axios' Alex Sands recently wrote.

  • The area has lagged economically for decades but there is active momentum from community leaders and long-time residents to invest in the area.
  • What's more, the Colliers are among the most prominent Black restaurant owners around, with a mission centered on uplifting, nurturing and promoting Black culinary excellence.

What they're saying: "While we are saddened by their early departure, we support them pursuing this growth opportunity and remain immensely grateful for our partnership over the past four years," Damon Hemmerdinger, co-president of Camp North End developer ATCO, said in a statement to Axios.

What's next: Greg will remain connected to the Camp North End community after the relocation, serving as a resource and advisor for food and beverage operators, Hemmerdinger said.

  • To commemorate the restaurant's Camp North End chapter closing, the Colliers will host a ticketed dinner on Sunday, April 21. Details will be released at a later date.
  • From now until Saturday, April 20, Leah & Louise will be open daily. Their hours are Sunday-Thursday from 3-9pm and Friday-Saturday from 3-11pm.
  • Separately, the Colliers are opening a restaurant called 3rd & Fernwood at the Metropolitan in April.
