We’re busy showing gratitude to and for everyone around us on Thanksgiving; it can be easy to forget to do the same for ourselves.
Why it matters: It’s nice to create a little extra room for more pie, but remember to carve out time for yourself during the holidays.
Here are three ways you can.
1. Get on the greenway.
Go for a walk, run or bike ride on the greenway. It’s free, in nature and the perfect dose of fresh air.
- One of my favorite holiday traditions was a walk with my mom before digging into several helpings of mashed potatoes and gravy. She would’ve loved Charlotte’s greenways and Axios’ Symphony Webber’s walking trails guide.
Bonus: Spend the day or weekend after Thanksgiving in nature with our Definitive hiking guide: The 16 best hikes around Charlotte.
2. Take on a turkey trot.
Whether it’s a mile or five, nothing says Thanksgiving like a turkey trot.
Charlotte Turkey Trot: Run an 8K, 5K or mile to kick off Thanksgiving in-person or virtually. The race starts and ends at SouthPark Mall.
Starting times:
- 8K 9am.
- 5K 8:20am.
- Mile8am.
Turkey Dash: Head to the Village at Robinson Farm for a 4-mile run/walk or a mile fun run/walk.
Starting times:
- 4-mile 8:30am.
- Mile 9:30am.
Bonus: Run the 4-mile race and stay to run the mile at no extra charge.
3. Take a fitness class.
Exercise gives you endorphins. Endorphins make you happy一thank you, Elle Woods. Happy people have a better chance of tolerating holiday stress. Here are seven fitness studios offering 28 classes on Thanksgiving.
- Barry’s: Three 50-minute classes at 7:30am, 8:45am and 9:45am.
- Corepower Yoga: Four 60-minute classes between Park Road (9am and 11am) and Midtown (10am and 12:15 pm). The 11am and 12:15pm classes are donation-based.

- Fit Atelier: two 60-minute classes at 9am and 10am.
