callie’s hot little biscuits charlotte south end
Callie’s Hot Little Biscuit, a popular Charleston-based grab-and-go biscuit counter, opens on Friday, January 31 at 10 a.m. in South End.
Freebies: During Callie’s grand opening, the first 10 customers in line will receive a free tote bag, mug, and free drip coffee for a year. The first 25 will receive a tote bag. All customers on opening day will get a free hot little biscuit with a purchase. The opening celebration runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on January 31 so be sure to get in line early.
Location: Callie’s is located on the ground floor of The Penrose, a new 350-unit luxury apartment complex on Tremont Avenue. This hot area is a short walk from Sycamore Brewing, Pins Mechanical, the Design Center, and East/West Station along the light rail.
Menu: The menu features signature biscuit sandwiches ($6.95-$8.95), build-your-own biscuit sandwiches (starting at $4), mini 2-inch Hot Little Biscuits available in 8 mix and match flavors (3 for $6 or 13 for $24), grits and a full espresso bar featuring King Bean coffee. Gluten-free biscuits are available. Charlotte’s local feature biscuit is the Queen Bee, a shortcake biscuit topped with South Carolina honey and turbinado sugar.
Specials: The fried chicken biscuit has a devoted following and is only available on Fridays (NOTE: It is NOT available opening day 1/31). Another favorite is the birthday biscuit with house-made frosting, sprinkles and a candle — $2 daily or free on your birthday with ID.
Hours: Callie’s is open Mon-Fri 7a-2p and Sat-Sun 8a-2p. (Note grand opening on Fri 1/31 is at 10a.) Look for them to roll out late-night hours with a walk-up biscuit window.
Background: Inspired by her mother, founder Carrie Morey’s goal is to “keep the Southern biscuit-making tradition alive,” and she does that at her Atlanta and Charleston locations. All biscuits are made by hand and are melt-in-your-mouth soft. Callie’s Charlotte location is its largest to date with a full coffee and espresso bar as well as more menu options like salads, sandwiches, and soups.
