Hello Tuesday.
When my sideburns start to get curly, I know it’s time for me to go to Sport Clips. I get my hair cut at the one across from Park Road Shopping Center, and I just heard that location is, in fact, the top Sport Clips location in the state in terms of weekly sales. Word on the street is they’re bringing in nearly the double annual revenue of a Sport Clips location nationally. There are 21 locations in the Charlotte area and 55 across North Carolina. Love hearing that a local franchise is doing well.
VITALS
Today’s Weather: 78. Sun and clouds. 20% chance of rain.
Today’s Stat: 38. That’s the predicted low temperature over the weekend, giving us a first taste of winter.
Today’s Job: Senior Business Analyst at CBRE. Apply.
Today’s Charlottean: Caroline Horne, principal of Beverly Woods Elementary, one of only three schools in the state to be named a National Blue Ribbon School this year.
ORIGINALS
What we learned in The Dog Wizard’s Puppy Preschool [Levans]
Katie took her young pup Charlie to the twice weekly one-hour class, and came away with a multitude of life lessons. My favorites: Socialization is key (one time homework was to meet 100 strangers), sometimes minding your own business deserves a treat, and these weird things called Lickety Sticks are a gross but effective training tool.
A photo tour of the Historic Cherry Neighborhood [Levans]
Here’s a guide to the retail, recreation, education, churches, homes and future development plans in this quiet neighborhood near The Metropolitan.
The 14 most anticipated fall restaurant openings in Charlotte [Williams]
From Vietnamese noodles to uptown sandwiches, there’s a ton in the works restaurant-wise in our city.
Sealed Air is at 400+ employees in Charlotte. See how the new HQ is progressing [Dunn]
This campus is going to be impressive. There’s going to be three buildings and amenities like an indoor gym, outdoor athletic courts, a cafeteria courtyard, coffee house and lots of collaborative workspaces. See renderings of what it’s going to look like.
The Great Pumpkin Beer Crawl: Your guide to Charlotte’s seasonal autumn beers [Beck]
An impressive roundup of the fall seasonals out right now. I can vouch for Mecktoberfest, and it will probably get my vote in the poll. Sycamore’s offering looks pretty darn good though.
How to donate your stuff in Charlotte [Wilson]
Cristina found 14 different places that will accept your appliances, furniture and other things you accumulate but don’t want to move around. Much better than having it end up in a landfill. Though she also lets you know how to schedule a bulky item pick-up by the garbage truck.
3 boutique hotels in Charlotte [Williams]
The Duke Mansion, Vanlandingham Estate and Morehead Inn are solid options if the uptown high-rise hotels aren’t your thing.
City Smart: 50 miles of greenway by 2020 to Fortune 500 companies in Charlotte [WTF We Vote]
The county has approved a greenway plan that’s going to transform how we get around in Charlotte.
TALKING POINTS
Checkers announce food lineup for Bojangles’ Coliseum [Twitter]. Queen City Q will have an anchor stand, Newk’s Eatery will be there and Kelly’s East Side Diner will have burgers and fries. Plus Bojangles’ of course.
The Dirty Hippie opening on South Boulevard [Thomas/CBJ]. Cocktails and nightly entertainment, including live music, painting and drag queen bingo. Planned to open at the end of the month.
Pizza spot coming to South End apartment complex [Agenda/Instagram]. Blaze Pizza is setting up shop in Camden Gallery. I’m hearing it’s tasty.
Things might get dicey at the school board meeting tonight [Helms/Observer]. Lots of tensions arising between board members, other elected officials and activists about whether Superintendent Ann Clark should be kept around longer.
Free class on fall fashion and style this evening at 6:30 p.m. from the supremely talented Jordan Dollard. Details and more things to do on the Planner. Get after it.
