Michael J. writes that his house in Buda, which isn't in a flood plain, was just hit with a 36% premium increase by Allstate.
"Previous years have also had significant rate hikes. We have had no claims of any sort since moving here in 2015, and no claims on any of our other Allstate coverage."
Drew P. looked through his bills and says that three years ago, he was paying $3,200 annually. "This year, $5,500."
"Home insurance is getting ridiculous," observes Adriana C.
Heather K. wrote: "I'm about to find out that homeowner's insurance is much higher, because Nationwide just canceled our policy 'due to wildfire risk assessment of the dwelling location.' (Yes, I am PISSED.)"
Mark H., an insurance professional, observes that "Many companies are raising their deductibles from 1% to 2%. That means your next roof claim will cost you twice as much."
His advice: "Have your insurance adjuster examine your roof after the next bad hailstorm, not just any roofer looking for work."
