Facebook expands Portal line with a portable version

What's new:

• The $199 Portal Go has a 10-inch display, battery and integrated handle, allowing it to be easily moved around the home and beyond.
• An updated Portal+ features a 14-inch tilting display and is priced at $349.
• Both models will begin shipping Oct. 19, with pre-orders starting immediately.
• Facebook is also adding support for Microsoft Teams later this year.

The big picture: Facebook is investing heavily in hardware. After finding itself highly dependent on Apple and Google in the mobile realm, the company aims have a more central role on the next generation of devices, including VR and AR headsets, as well as communications devices such as Portal.

• The Portal line has expanded significantly since its 2018 debut, adding both more types of devices as well as support for business video chat services including Zoom and WebEx.
