Canada's government added the far-right, anti-government militia group the Three Percenters to its list of terrorist entities on Friday, according to CBC.

Why it matters: People who have identified themselves as Three Percenters members have been charged with conspiracy in the Jan. 6 Capitol attack.

The big picture: Three Percenters is primarily based in the U.S. but has a known presence in Canada, according to CBC.

  • The designation allows banks to freeze the assets of people financially supporting the group and allows police to arrest those supporters.
  • Three Percenters and other far-right extremist groups have not been designated terrorist organization by the U.S. because federal law limits that label to foreign entities.

U.S. Capitol Police Chief Tom Manger said Monday that the protective fence that was put in place around the Capitol following the Jan. 6 riot will be reinstalled ahead of a rally scheduled for Sept. 18.

Driving the news: Law enforcement has been "closely monitoring" the rally, which is planned in support of individuals arrested for storming the Capitol in January.

Israel will approve the construction of 4,400 new homes in the West Bank next week: 3,10o in the Jewish settlements and 1,300 in Palestinian villages.

Why it matters: This will be the first time Israel has approved new settlement building since President Biden assumed office, and it's the first time since 2007 that it approves a significant number of new homes for Palestinians in "Area C" of the West Bank, which is controlled by Israel.

The House of Representatives voted 229-202 on Thursday to hold former Trump strategist Steve Bannon in contempt of Congress for refusing to comply with a subpoena from the Jan. 6 select committee.

Why it matters: The Justice Department will now consider bringing criminal charges against Bannon, marking a significant escalation in the Jan. 6 committee's efforts to enforce subpoenas against Trump allies who refuse to cooperate.
