Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador is scheduled to hold a virtual meeting with Vice President Kamala Harris on May 7 to discuss the surge of migration at the countries' shared border, Mexican Foreign Relations Secretary Marcelo Ebrard tweeted Saturday.

The big picture: The scheduled meeting comes as the Biden administration takes a multi-pronged approach to the increased number of migrants coming to the southern border, Axios' Stef Kight reports.

  • Harris, who has been tapped to lead U.S. negotiations with Central American countries, is scheduled to meet virtually with Guatemalan President Alejandro Giammattei on Monday. She'll visit the region in June.
  • The U.S. is also expected to soon announce its plan for investing aid in Central America.

What they're saying: The May 7 virtual meeting will focus on “the common goals of prosperity, good governance and addressing the root causes of migration," Harris' office said, per AP.

Rep. Henry Cuellar (D-Texas) and Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) urged President Biden on Friday to name Obama-era Department of Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson to a special role focused on dealing with migration at the border.

Why it matters: Republicans have seized on the spike in border crossings as one of their most consistent criticisms of the Biden administration. Vice President Kamala Harris had previously been tasked with addressing the migrant surge and its root causes.

Biden administration reinstates fast-track deportation flights

The Biden administration on Friday resumed fast-track deportation flights to Central America, the Department of Homeland Security announced.

The big picture: Officials said Monday that they were planning to resume "expedited removal flights" following an increase in the number of migrants crossing into the Rio Grande Valley of South Texas, the Washington Post reports.

This arthritis drug cost $198 in 2008. Now it's more than $10,000

Illustration: Aïda Amer/Axios

In 2008, a box of 30 anti-inflammatory rectal suppositories that treats arthritis, called Indocin, had a price tag of $198. As of Oct. 1, the price of that same box was 52 times higher, totaling $10,350.

Why it matters: As federal lawmakers continue to waver on drug price reforms, Indocin is another example of how nothing prevents drug companies from hiking prices at will and selling them within a broken supply chain.
