Sen. Elissa Slotkin (D-Mich.) is meeting with state party and labor leaders during a two-day swing through Nevada this week, Axios has learned.

Why it matters: Nevada is now second on the Democratic presidential primary calendar in 2028. Slotkin is widely viewed as a potential candidate.

Potential 2028 contenders are fanning out across early primary states — often times boosting midterm candidates, while testing the presidential waters.

Zoom in: Slotkin will meet with the Nevada state party and union leaders, and deliver the keynote address at a Washoe County Democratic dinner this week, Slotkin's team tells Axios.

Her Wednesday and Thursday schedule includes:

An event with the Nevada Democratic Party
A meet and greet with Las Vegas labor leaders at Nevada AFL-CIO
A ModSquad Welcome Reception and Fundraiser with Sen. Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nev.)
A swing voter roundtable with Majority Democrats in Las Vegas
A roundtable with Labor leaders in Reno
The keynote address at the Washoe County Democratic Party "Power the Blue Wave" Dinner

Between the lines: Slotkin has not announced a presidential bid, but she hasn't taken it off the table. She also visited Iowa in April.

A moderate, pro-union candidate who won the swing state of Michigan, Slotkin is viewed as a rising star in the Democratic party.
Sen. Mark Kelly (D-Ariz.) and Rahm Emanuel — also potential 2028 contenders — have both given speeches at Washoe Democrats events this year.
