As President Trump fights the press over coverage, the White House launched its own 24/7 streaming channel — Trump TV.
Why it matters: Trump TV gives the president a White House-run video platform to reach the public without relying on traditional news organizations.
- So far, Trump TV resembles a round-the-clock presidential highlight reel more than a news network.
Driving the news: Trump TV launched the same day major TV networks suspended White House pool coverage — a protest that left one Trump speech airing without sound.
- The White House had teased the channel through cryptic videos, and it went live on the White House YouTube account, WhiteHouse.gov and the official White House app.
Reality check: Presidents have long used White House platforms to share speeches and events with the public.
What we know about Trump TV
How it works: The channel launched as "TRUMP TV: The Essentials Station."
- "Trump TV is a 24/7 livestream of the Administration's greatest hits, unfiltered," Kaelan Dorr, deputy assistant to the president, wrote on X.
- So far, the channel has shown curated clips of past Trump speeches and executive actions, along with live events.
Catch up quick: The initial programming included Trump's July 3 Mount Rushmore speech before shifting into footage of his 2025 inauguration, per multiple reports.
- The Daily Beast reports 8,500 viewers were watching the stream during its first hour.
- Around 1,200 people were watching Tuesday afternoon as the channel aired a Trump health care announcement from August, according to an Axios review of the stream.
Zoom in: The stream can also carry live events.
- On Tuesday, the stream carried Vice President Vance's briefing on fraud claims.
- But while Trump addressed the U.N. General Assembly Tuesday morning, Trump TV was replaying an earlier speech from the National Prayer Breakfast.
Unanswered questions about Trump TV
What we're watching: So far, Trump TV has no anchors, news ticker or headline chyrons.
- The stream includes banners asking viewers to text White House officials.
- It's unclear who staffs the channel, makes programming decisions or sets its schedule.
What they're saying: A White House official tells Axios that the channel's purpose is to replay Trump's "greatest hits that the media fails to cover fairly, oftentimes on purpose."
The intrigue: The White House's revamped livestream page labels its regular feed "CH 45" and Trump TV "CH 47" — references to Trump serving as the 45th and 47th president.
Trump's previous streaming ventures
Flashback: Trump has experimented with direct-to-audience video before.
- In 2016, Trump's presidential campaign launched a nightly Facebook Live show called "Trump Tower Live" that was meant to deliver campaign messaging directly to the public.
Trump Media's Truth+ offers 24/7 news streams and on-demand entertainment.
- It appears on Truth+ apps and remains a commercial streaming service rather than an official government stream.
- The service began rolling out in 2024. Its lineup has included broadcasts of Newsmax, OAN and Real America's Voice.
