Meta hires OpenAI veteran Luke Metz

Prominent AI researcher Luke Metz has joined Meta's Superintelligence Labs, a source familiar with the matter confirmed to Axios.

Why it matters: Metz is the latest leading researcher to jump between multiple rival frontier labs as part of the ongoing AI talent wars.

Driving the news: Metz, who left OpenAI in 2024 to join Mira Murati's Thinking Machines, had rejoined OpenAI earlier this year.

Metz starts at Meta this week and will report to Alexandr Wang, who heads the company's AI efforts, which has debuted a number of new models in recent months.
His hiring was noted X by poster ArfurGrok, who has accurately highlighted a number of recent AI moves.

Zoom in: It's the latest major hire for Meta, which has been on a spree since paying billions in a deal with Scale AI that allowed Wang, its former CEO, to join the company.
