E. Jean Carroll's payday in Trump case finally arrives

Driving the news: "Three years ago, a unanimous nine-person jury found President Trump liable for sexually assaulting and defaming E. Jean Carroll," Roberta Kaplan, Carroll's attorney, said in a statement provided to Axios.

• "Today, we are pleased to report that she has received the damages payment the jury awarded her as a result of that verdict."
• Court records show the disbursement totaled more than $5.62 million.

The other side: "The American People stand with President Trump as they demand an immediate end to all of the Witch Hunts, including the Democrat-funded travesty of the Carroll Hoaxes," a spokesperson for the president's legal team said.

• Judge Lewis A. Kaplan ruled that even in the "highly unlikely event" that the Supreme Court would grant Trump's request to rehear the case, paying out the funds would not cause him irreparable harm.
• "It is time for him to 'do equity' and pay the judgement," Kaplan wrote. An appeals court also rejected Trump's attempt to pause the order.

• Carroll's team said in a filing that she plans to use the money to fund her retirement and will place it in an interest-bearing account until Trump's petition to re-hear the case is denied.

Catch up quick: After the Supreme Court rejected Trump's effort to indefinitely delay paying Carroll, the president claimed on Truth Social that the case was "Fake," painting it as "against the United States of America."
