The women of "Sinners," "K-Pop Demon Hunters" make Oscars history

The women behind "Sinners" and "KPop Demon Hunters" led a night of history-making at the 98th Academy Awards.

Why it matters: "A lot of little girls that look like me will sleep well tonight ... being on stage, getting this award will change so many girls' lives because they'll be inspired," Autumn Durald Arkapaw told reporters after winning the Best Cinematography Oscar for "Sinners."

State of play: Durald Arkapaw, who is Black and Filipina, is not only the first woman of color to win an Oscar for Best Cinematography, she's also the first woman to win the award.

"KPop Demon Hunters" co-director/writer Maggie Kang and producer Michelle Wong are the first people of South Korean descent to win animated feature.
"Golden," one of the "KPop Demon Hunters" hits, is also the first K-pop song to win an Oscar.

"Sinners," which broke the Oscars nomination record, won four Oscars.

The movie's star Michael B. Jordan became the seventh Black man to win in the "Best Actor" category.
Ryan Coogler, who also directed "Sinners," is the second Black man to win the award for Best Original Screenplay, following Jordan Peele.
