The majority of the nation's largest retailers will keep their doors closed this Thanksgiving.
Why it matters: Last-minute turkey shopping will be tough. Walmart, Target, Aldi, Trader Joe's and many regional grocers will be closed on Thursday, limiting options for holiday fixings.
- Walgreens will close most of its stores for the third year in a row — a major shift for a chain that once stayed open nearly every day of the year.
The big picture: Black Friday is already underway online and in many stores. Retailers pushed out deals as early as late October to pull spending forward and shift more traffic online.
- Walmart launched its official online Black Friday sale on Tuesday, but in-store doorbusters don't start until Friday morning.
