Wendy's bets on new tenders in fast-food chicken fight

• Ohio-based Wendy's is betting tenders are the next battleground.

Zoom in: Wendy's said Tuesday its seasoned chicken tenders are now available as three- or four-piece options that come with two dipping sauces. A two-piece kid's meal is also available.

• The six sauces on offer are: Wendy's Signature, Sweet Chili, Scorchin' Hot, Creamy Ranch, Honey BBQ and Honey Mustard.
• Some restaurants will temporarily rebrand as "Tendy's" in October.

Catch up quick: The move comes as chains keep jockeying for chicken dominance.

• McDonald's debuted new chicken tenders in May ahead of the summer return of its Snack Wrap. Popeyes and Sonic also rolled out new wraps this summer.

Zoom out: Chicken has gained a steady share of quick-service spending over the past two years, according to a new report from Numerator.

• The report found that McDonald's, Taco Bell, Subway and Chipotle have increased the share of chicken sales over traditional chicken chains.
• Raising Cane's — a growing chain built on chicken fingers — is one of the few traditional chicken chains still gaining share, Numerator found.
