State of play: The House passed a seven-week CR mainly along party lines just before lawmakers left town.

• Johnson's argument for keeping his members out of D.C. is that his chamber has already done its job, and now it's up to the Senate to act.
• Democrats, meanwhile, have hit Republicans for skipping town. Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) said at a press conference Monday: "If House Republicans were serious, they would be here right now."
• A GOP leadership aide told Axios that Johnson cautioned his members against glitzy fundraisers during a potential shutdown and urged them to use their judgment about the optics of political events.

Between the lines: Senate GOP leaders haven't pulled down any fundraisers yet, with a retreat at Sea Island, Georgia, scheduled for this weekend, as we reported on Friday.

• House and Senate Democrats also have destination fundraisers planned, with House lawmakers insisting they will be available for votes if Johnson schedules them.
