Putin wants to attend 2026 FIFA World Cup in the U.S. "very badly," Trump says

• "That's a man named Vladimir Putin, who I believe will be coming, depending on what happens," Trump said, holding up a picture of the two world leaders, taken at their Alaska summit.
• "He's been very respectful of me and of our country but not so respectful of others," Trump also said.

• Their summit ended without a ceasefire or the public commitment Trump wanted from Putin to meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

Between the lines: The International Criminal Court has had an arrest warrant against Putin since 2023, but the Trump administration has imposed sanctions against ICC members.

• Putin last visited the U.S. in September 2015, where he spoke at the UN General Assembly and met with then-President Barack Obama.
