Secret Service "had a bad day": Trump reflects on assassination attempt

President Trump said mistakes were made in how the Secret Service handled the assassination attempt against him at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, last year while reflecting on the incident in an interview clip shared Thursday.

The big picture: One year after the July 13, 2024, rally shooting, Trump said on FOX News' "My View with Lara Trump" that he's "satisfied" with the subsequent investigation.

What he's saying: In a clip of the interview with his daughter-in-law, the president said he's been briefed by the FBI, Secret Service and Department of Justice, "and I'm satisfied with it."

But, he added, "They should have had somebody in the building. That was a mistake. They should have had communications with the local police."
The president said, "So there were mistakes made, that, you know, shouldn't have happened."
Trump noted, however that he has "great confidence" in people working in the Secret Service, adding, "They had a bad day, and I think they'll admit that."
