Judge blocks deportation of Boulder attack suspect's family

• The Biden-appointed judge ordered administration officials not to deport the wife and five children of the man suspected of Sunday's flamethrower attack while an appeal is before the courts.

Driving the news: Trump officials said Tuesday that immigration officials had taken the family into custody after they were found to have overstayed their visa.

• The 45-year-old suspect, Egyptian national Mohamed Sabry Soliman, is facing charges of federal hate crime and attempted murder.
• The number identified as injured in the attack rose from 12 to 15 people and one dog, the Boulder County District Attorney's Office announced Wednesday.

What they're saying: "This judicial coup must end. United States Courts continue to give preferential treatment to illegal aliens and put Americans' safety at risk," said White House spokesperson Abigail Jackson on Wednesday night.

• "This judge has no authority to intervene with immigration or national security — authority that rests squarely with President Trump and the Executive Branch," she said in her emailed statement.

• Jackson added that after the "horrific attack" in Boulder that Soliman is accused of committing, "immigration security is national security."
• Department of Homeland Security assistant secretary Tricia McLaughlin in an emailed statement Wednesday night accused the family of trying to delay justice and said they were in the U.S. "illegally and are rightfully in ICE custody for removal as a result."
